Yoga Sangraha
‘Sangraha’ means collection or compendium. While not a new form of yoga, it is a contemporary approach, designed by Eddie Stern of Broome Street Temple in New York, that takes practices from many different lineages and modalities and grouping them in such a way as to create a practice that is relatively easeful but can be increased in intensity where time, energy and capacity are available.
There are 10 types of sun salutation, some of which are new, plus dands and baitaks which are from the Hindu wrestling tradition of Kushti. These were primarily used as warm ups and can be found in many modern calisthenics classes, appearing as a combination between sun salutation and pushup.
The other postures are grouped, for example standing, seated, on back and can be added where necessary. Students will also learn Kriya, Pranayama(breathwork).
Classes also fall into 3 types, Yoga Sangraha Level 1 or 2.
Sun Salutations (practice 6 types plus dands), and Yoga and Strength (incorporating body strength and core excersises)
Its a complete, rounded practice that can be integrated into other yoga classes, or learnt and practiced at home.
